James R. Bakker, President, James R. Bakker Antiques, Inc., opened the doors to his first antiques shop on June 25, 1968 at the age of 15.  He was an exhibitor at major antiques and art fairs throughout the country and a frequent advertiser in the American Art Review, Art & Auction and the Magazine Antiques. Over the next fifty-six years, Bakker has had galleries in Littleton, Cambridge, Boston, and Provincetown.


Jim Bakker is an auctioneer, art dealer, consultant and independent curator specializing in American paintings and prints. He is a member of the Antiques Dealers’ Association of America. He graduated from Phillips Academy at Andover and attended Harvard University where he developed an interest in the fine arts. Bakker is the past President of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, past President of the Cape & Islands Historical Association, past Chair of the Town of Provincetown Visitor Services Board and a previous Chair of the Provincetown Art Commission and a previous Executive Director of the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum from 2006-2011. 
 

Spencer Keasey, Director, Bakker Gallery & Auctions, received his Masters of the Arts in Teaching in 1992 from the University of Pittsburgh.  He worked as an educator, mediator, counselor and trainer in education and athletics in Pittsburgh from 1992-2001.  He then began working as an educational grant coordinator and consultant for the State of Vermont through 2004.  Landing in Provincetown in 2005 he was employed by the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod as a counselor, HIV educator and outreach coordinator from 2008-2012. Also a painter, actor, musician and writer, he is regularly a part of the community’s various artistic scenes.  

Bakker Gallery & Auctions opened in 2013 at its current location (359 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA) as a collaboration between Jim and Spencer. Through the years they have not only brought the finest historical Provincetown to the market, they’ve been instrumental in ensuring the history of one of the oldest art colonies in the country endures.  They are educators and well as gallerists, providing an important connection between both new and existing lovers lovers of art who also appreciate and recognize Provincetown as a town with a creative spirit and historical works of significance and beauty.
